Summertime is here, which means that camping season has officially arrived! Whether you are planning one big outing, or are ready to become a weekend warrior and get in as many days as you can, some quality time under the stars is in a lot of people’s future. Of course, one of the foundations of a good camping trip is booze! Don’t limit yourself to beer, you can enjoy a cocktail in the great outdoors too. These are four of our favorite drinks to make when we’re out camping.

The Fisherman’s Friend
This classic cocktail has gone by many names over the years. If you don’t recognize it as “the fisherman’s friend” perhaps it is more familiar to you as an “irish coffee”. Beloved by city-dwellers and country folk alike this blend of coffee and bourbon is the perfect way to start your morning. There are few things more satisfying than starting your day sitting next to the campfire with hot cup of coffee and bourbon. It just feels right.

Not only is this a delicious drink, but it’s perfect for camping because it only requires two ingredients: bourbon and hot coffee. Honestly, who isn’t going to bring those things with them anyway!

Old Fashioned–Pioneer Style
The old fashioned is a classic drink for a reason—it’s delicious, easy to make and strong. While a classic old fashioned of whiskey, bitters and sugar is never a bad choice, it is worth considering spicing it up a bit while you’re camping. The pioneer-style old fashioned is just like a classic old fashioned, except you add a bit of maple syrup at the end. Maple syrup elevates this drink in a woodsy way that is both delicious, and comforting all at the same time. Plus, you’ll now have maple syrup with you for a campfire breakfast! That’s a win-win situation.

All-American Mule
Moscow mules have exploded in popularity over the last few years, and for good reason. Not only are they high in alcohol content, but they are easy to make and incredibly refreshing. The classic moscow mule has vodka, ginger beer, lime juice and is served in a copper mug. The all-american mule is a bit more rough and tumble and certainly does not need a copper mug.

Perfect for camping, all you need for an all-american mule is a can of beer, vodka, ginger beer and a packet of instant lemonade. To make one all you need to do is take a few sips of your beer, then pour vodka and a bit of ginger beer into the can. Top that off with the contents of a lemonade packet, swirl it all together and enjoy a delicious camping treat.

Death In The Afternoon
This drink was invented by Ernest Hemingway, and is a cult favorite amongst those in the know. It also happens to be the perfect drink for relaxing in a hammock while out camping. The best way to make this drink comes straight from the instructions of the inventor himself, according to Hemingway all you have to do is “Pour one jigger absinthe into a champagne glass. Add iced champagne until it attains the proper opalescent milkiness. Drink three to five of these slowly”.

Camping is a summertime staple, and hopefully these cocktails become staples too! Of course, there are few things worse than a hangover in the woods. So, remember to bring plenty of water and a few packets of Intelligent Drinking’s LAUNCH. Visit www.intelligentdrinking.com to learn more.
